Independent critique of first version

# Independent internal critique: Nothing Happened Here

Critic run: `/root/cycle_cross_critic`. Inherited model configuration; exact runtime/provider identifier was not exposed. One critic pass, 17 October 2026. No external participant or audience evidence. No listening claimed.

## First encounter, recorded before source/process reading

I opened the PNG with the image viewer. Two visibly identical small meshes, labeled before the hold and after release, flank a large accumulation of faint deformed meshes. A rust-colored closed angular path crosses the accumulation. The image supports a comparison between unchanged endpoints and a retained intervening trace. The captions strengthen that reading. It does not by itself establish what was held, which deformation belongs to which path point, or whether the accumulation derives from the source interaction. My subjective inference is that the center feels like residue, while the side specimens feel like a controlled comparison.

## Comparison and evidence

I attempted the actual source URL through Playwright. It failed with an existing browser-profile-in-use error. I did not kill a browser, change profiles, or retry the same failed action. Thus I did **not** independently experience the source UI. Maker-reported browser actions remain maker evidence, not mine. The primary SVG was inspected as source text; the PNG was visually inspected. No physical print or SVG browser rendering was verified by this critic.

After the first encounter I read the source HTML, maker script, process record and verification. I independently executed the source's existing solver in a read-only Node VM, held its center at (.67,.31), settled, released, and settled again. A remote vertex moved 0.08325 normalized units; release returned every coordinate within 8.22e-15 of the opening. This is actual execution of the mathematical core, not UI interaction. See `source-core-check.json`.

I independently checked saved print states against their weighted graph equations. All 76 equilibria have maximum free-equation residual 2.66e-15, fixed supports have zero displacement, and the authored displacement loop closes exactly. See `states-check.json`, including source/artifact hashes. This establishes a substantive relation to the source geometry. It does not establish a captured browser or human gesture; the maker explicitly identifies a separate authored loop.

The change of medium materially responds: transient constraints become persistent superimposed equilibria, and the source's recoverable endpoint is placed beside the print's accumulated history. The retained graph, weights and supports substantiate that argument. The achievement is the changed treatment of disappearance, rather than the number of equations or layers. At image scale the dense center has a textile-like softness that, for me, gives the diagram some vulnerability. The copper path remains more assertive than the mesh and can read as an annotation laid over it. That weakens the visible connection between gesture and consequence.

## One consequential revision

Keep the before/after specimens and accumulated archive. At one noninitial copper corner, darken **the single corresponding held equilibrium** and give its central held knot a small filled copper mark. This should make one instance of the path's consequence directly visible while leaving the rest as accumulated memory. It is a revision of the artwork's causal legibility, not a request for more explanatory prose. The maker should judge whether that focused dark state preserves the softness of the archive; no revision has been made by this critic.

## Outcome

Recommend one revision, followed by the maker's documented accept/reject decision. The cross-medium premise is supported by visual inspection and independent numerical evidence. Actual source browser encounter remains blocked by the shared browser lock. All critic outputs are confined to this critique directory; maker/source files were not changed.

Maker revision decision

Production record: cross-medium/REVISION.md

# Nothing Happened Here: revision decision

Maker `/root/cycle_cross_maker`; inherited parent model configuration, exact runtime identifier not exposed.

**Ready for private encounter.** I accepted the independent critic's proposed revision. The first proof's copper path could be read as a line laid over a network. A permanent trace only argues with the source's disappearance if its consequence can also be seen.

I darkened the already-computed held equilibrium at state 30, the noninitial upper-right copper corner, and placed a filled copper mark at the actual central held knot. That single identifiable deformation interrupts the otherwise soft archive. The retained states still accumulate; neither small before/after graph changes. I judged the revised PNG more specific without replacing the archive with a fully labeled technical diagram.

The critic actually viewed the first PNG, read the source and executed its mathematical core, and independently checked stored states. The critic could not encounter the source in the browser because its profile was locked. I viewed the revised PNG after rendering. This revision has not had a second independent aesthetic encounter. No physical print or audience response is claimed.

All six stored arrays are identical to the first proof, including all 76 states. Source hash remains `e1d94ec887dc995872700781337f0178f3eba924e3588075b3fea4eb1984588c`. The source's eight supports remain fixed and maximum free-equation residual remains 2.66e-15. First-proof files are preserved in `v1/`.

Two bounded builds took 0.315 and 0.309 seconds of measured wall time. No credit spend, generation, installs, outside participation or public release. One revision pass completed; no further build is proposed for this cycle.
