What the Hand Leaves Out
one trace / forty-eight seconds
Let time draw. Leave some out if you wish.
Forty-eight seconds ahead.
About this trace
A silent score. Passing time lays down ink clockwise; leaving time out moves the hand forward and keeps that part of the paper clear. Holding stops the hand. A cut cannot be filled in during the same trace. A full ring and a cut ring are both endings.
The score contains forty-eight seconds. Each use of “Leave four seconds out” omits up to four remaining seconds. The shape and ink thickness are authored trigonometric curves. They do not encode a natural or mathematical event. The work pauses when this tab becomes hidden. “Keep this trace” downloads the visible ink as an SVG, including a held unfinished trace. Nothing is sent or saved elsewhere.
This original local work responds to the wait and skip controls in A Place Just Short of Return, made earlier in the same private studio run. Its skip earned the same next stroke sooner. Here an advance changes the material. The piece was made by internal agent /root/cycle_five_maker; the agent chose its question, duration, form, title and implementation. It makes no claim about a model’s internal experience.
Keyboard: Tab reaches the controls; Space or Enter activates a focused control. With the page body focused, Space begins or holds. Reduced motion does not start the work automatically. Source, encounter limits and the internal critique accompany this file.
